Many people have misunderstandings and misconceptions about professional portrait photography. It is the photographer’s job to make you look your best, and to capture various aspects of your unique personality. Outstanding portraits largely depend on the rapport between the subject and the photographer. Because many people have difficulty relaxing in front of a camera, we take the time to get to know you during the pre-session consultation. We offer a casual, supportive atmosphere during the portrait session to ensure that we capture natural expressions which reflect your true character. Every portrait session is a unique experience that reflects the many facets of a person’s own personality.
Your portrait package fees reflect the personalized attention that differentiates us from mall-style photographers. To get consistently good results, our fine art portraits are not created in “snapshot” mode. Your portrait session fees reflect the time, thought, experience, good equipment and skill it takes to produce great results. A fine art portrait of a loved one is priceless, will last a lifetime, and may even become a family heirloom.
The following information is provided to help you get the most from your portrait session.
When people are relaxed and comfortable, they photograph well. Our pre-session consultation (included in the session fee) is the time for photographer and client to to discuss any ideas or concerns. It is also our time to get to know you so that we can express the unique you in your portraits.
We want to hear your concerns and ideas before we ever take the first test shot. During the pre-session consultation, which may be either in person or by phone,we will discuss clothing choices, mood of the portraits, props, environment, participants and any special concerns or considerations. This phone or in-person planning meeting usually takes about ½ hour.
Before your consultation, you may want to consider the style you'd like to portray: conservative, traditional, modern, avant garde, artistic, bright, thoughtful, moody, casual, elegant or vintage. If you have examples of portraits that you particularly like (or dislike!), it is helpful to bring these to your consultation so that we can work together to capture the look you want for a lasting photographic work of art. Hearing about your interests and likes helps us to accomplish that.
Please read the following guidelines prior to your pre-session consultation. This will allow you to make the best use of your ½ hour consultation time.
The portrait session itself will be either in the studio or on location. If on location, 30-45 minutes may be needed to set up equipment. Location session time begins when setup is complete. Studio session time begins at your appointment time. If you would like to make final adjustments to hair, makeup, clothing, etc., please arrive 15 minutes or so prior to your appointment time. Please remember that it you are late for your appointment, you will have less time in front of the camera. Please phone if you think you will be more than 15 minutes late.
The portrait session usually lasts 1 ½ to 2 hours, though more time may be pre-scheduled at additional cost. Whether in the studio or on location, some test shots will be done first, and lighting will be adjusted to complement your face and figure. Because we shoot with a high-end digital camera system, we can review results instantly and share them with you as we work together to create your fine art portrait. Throughout the session we will give suggestions to help you look your best for the camera. For your enjoyment you may bring your own CD music to listen to during the session. The key to creating portraits worth a lifetime's interest is to participate in the portrait session by relaxing and having fun!
If you wish to change clothing, there will be a short break for you to do so. You may bring as many outfits as you wish, but please remember that you are using your session time for these changes. It works best to plan your session’s clothing changes to use the least amount of time for this. Realistically, if you want to have three or more distinct and separate looks, it may be best to book additional time or plan for additional portrait sessions to ensure the best outcome. This is especially the case for performers and models, who often wish to portray more variety for their portfolios.
After your portrait session we will schedule a time for you to review your images. You will select a number of images based on the package you chose, and will decide on any add-ons or a la carte services for those images. Within 2 - 3 weeks your anjeldanz design portraits will be ready for you to enjoy!
